SlutCake Records

Once Upon A Time.... (in the mid 90s)

I had a DIY label/distro called Ego Records. I ran Ego from 1997-2004. I was doing spoken word back then and I pretty much started my own label just so i could release them myself. Then I started putting together music and spoken word compilations as well as a few split tapes. In 2002/2003 my friend Jamie (now my husband) was in a band called The Street Freaks and i put out a few tapes and a cd by them.

In 2023, I put together a Mix Tape for issue #16 of "SlutCake" zine. It was so much fun to do and everyone seemed to love it so I really want to do another one!

Some of the other projects i am working on right now= "SlutCake Mix Tape #2", A spoken word & zine reading cassette compilation, and I would like to do a 4 way split tape with 4 bands and I also have a few other ideas that are still in the early planning stages. Please get in touch with me if you would like to get involved with any of these projects or if you just want more info:

I am also re-releasing a few old Ego Records tapes from the 1990s! starting with ....i guess, a "Best Of" for lack of better words....my spoken word. I was 17 -21 when I did most of the recordings. And another one I'm doing is a cassette of The StreetFreaks. And maybe I will re-release an old music and spoken word tapeentitled "Riot". And another one called "Punk RockIsn't Just For Your Boyfriend" which was a compilation of Bikini Kill, Bratmobile, & Heavens to Betsy covers from several different bands. It's one of my most favorite things that I did back in the day.

For now, all releases will be on cassette tape. I may do a cd here and there. And one of the things I always wanted to do when I was doing Ego Records was to make actual vinyl records, but i never got that far with it.....so it has been (& still is) my goal to at least put out a 7" at some point. Maybe as a split release or something. Not sure, i'm still making plans.
